My name is Kate Orr and my husband, Will, and I live in Houston, TX. While we both grew up in Michigan, work moved both of us down to southern Texas after we graduated from college. Some of my hobbies include traveling to new places, spending time outside at the beach or pool, and playing with my dog, Macey.
While we love the climate of Texas, the ultimate goal for my husband and I would be to move back to Michigan after a few more years to be closer to our families. |
I grew up dreaming of attending Michigan State University, where my entire family attended college. It also really helped that they have an excellent teacher preparation program, which had been my career plan since I was in 4th grade. My inspiration for becoming a teacher was my grandmother, who was a 1st grade teacher.
During my time at Michigan State University, I gained experience tutoring high school refugees, teaching 3rd-5th grade students in a Montessori setting, and tutoring a struggling second grader in reading. After graduation, I was honored to get to complete my student teaching year in the Walled Lake Consolidated School District in an amazing 1st grade classroom. Once that experience was completed, I spent two years teaching in Aransas Pass, TX as a 5th grade math, science, and social studies teacher. I loved teaching there, but my husband's work moved us to Houston where I am currently teaching as a 4th grade reading and writing teacher. |
